My dog has fleas - kava treatment for incessant skin biting

Recently my dog, Lulu, a 110# female rottie, has taken to biting her own coat near her hind legs. It was perhaps a reaction to an itching sensation caused by fleas/ticks. I think it turned into a vicious cycle where her biting and then licking caused more irritation which cause further biting. Her skin was running a bit raw... I sprinkled and rubbed in some Tuday kava over the afflicted area. It must have numbed the spot as she has ceased biting and licking the raw area. I am hoping for a heal over.
